Greenwoods opened its doors for the first time on the Singel canal in Amsterdam on the 15th of September 1988. The restaurant made a name for itself for being the original hot spot for everyone’s breakfast, brunch, lunch and tea desires in the city. In June 2010 Dutchman Daniel Post took over and re-invigorated the venue, and introduced a few classic breakfast options that you will recognise, Eggs Benedict anyone?
Two years later in 2012, a second location was opened on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam. This is when Jen Nelson, a Scottish lass, was brought on board. Jen grew into the role of general manager and managed both Amsterdam locations. In 2020 the opportunity rose for us to open a third location in Edinburgh and for Jen to move home, while taking part of Greenwoods with her. In May 2021 Greenwoods opened its doors on Frederick Street in Edinburgh.
We pride ourselves on sourcing top quality local ingredients and make our products fresh on the premises as much as we can. And of course, we also brought our Dutch roots with us as well. You’ll find it on the menu and in the restaurant itself. Fancy some traditional Dutch ‘appeltaart’ (apple pie)?
